"Lovely long sandy beach with good surf. North part of the beach is busy and has lots of bars, restaurants, hotels, surf schools and lifeguards. South end of the beach is much quieter with rough seas, less facilities and no lifeguards. Photos are from the southern end of the beach. The bottom end of the beach is sheltered and good for swimming. TIP: DO NOT buy corn-on-the-cob from the beach seller at the north end of the beach as it is inedible and a rip-off."

"My first beach experience in Sri Lanka.. it was decent. The beach itself was pretty clean and a little crowded but not too bad. Several restaurants with beach loungers for rent. Some will try to take advantage of you so be careful. I found a restaurant that said as long as I buy at least a drink (300 LKR) I could use their lounger all day. Surfboards for rent for an hour or all day at good rates. Plenty of free parking and no entry fees. The water was clear but cloudy and vey choppy. Not the best for swimming but awesome for surfing. Recommended"
