What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the Japanese Peace Pagoda's serene atmosphere and breathtaking panoramic views of the ocean and Galle Fort, especially at sunset. It's praised as a tranquil escape and a beautiful symbol of peace. Some note that while entry is free, donations are appreciated, and modest dress is required.
"Beautiful! We recommend you to visit this place. Make sure to cover shoulders and knees to visit. Parking is possible all the way up (500rps). The visit was free, but we donated some rps to the monk who resides there since 2004. He was really friendly and welcoming.
Try to avoid moments when they do celebrations because it gets really crowded.
Possibility to attend group ceremonies. Hours are shown there."

"Japanese peace pagoda is situated at the top of Roomassala overlooking the Indian ocean.
The temple is very calm, quiet with a stunning view of the sea and it has the ability to bring peace to your mind. I personally can stay for hours on end sitting on the temple grounds feeling the calming sea breeze, smelling the salty sea area and just looking at either the pagoda or the sea.
Additionally, the monks hold a ritual at the evening like a prayer where they play a drum repeatedly. You can also participate in the ritual if you go to the temple in the evening.
The temple is less crowded as well, so it is a perfect place to escape from the world for a brief moment."

"This is a really nice and calm place which gives a fascinating view of the nearby Galle harbor and fort. To watch the sunset, this is a good place. Vibrant red and orange colors mixed with the reflection of the Galle sea makes it really beautiful."
