What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Brownsberg Nature Park offers stunning natural beauty, particularly the panoramic views of the Brokopondo Reservoir and its refreshing waterfalls. However, visitors note that park infrastructure is in need of maintenance, and the access road is very rugged, often requiring a 4x4 vehicle or a guided tour. Despite these challenges, the raw, adventurous experience is highly valued by many.
"Rugged terrain, 4x4 mandatory. Beautiful nature, need better tourist infrastructure including more and better trails."
Muris Demirovic
"Very sad example of a national park. The road/trail to the park, even during the dry season, is nearly impassable. The guards told us the government has not paid a penny for the upkeep of the park in the past five years and it shows. Everything is broken or falling apart. Very little wildlife which is usually a sign that people are hunting bushmeat and the animals avoid humans at all costs. The view of Brokopondo reservoir is wonderful. The natural setting is beautiful and it's too bad no one looks after it."
Richard Ellis
"This place is beautiful, it's like something out of a movie. My only gripe with the park is that the buildings, pergolas, benches, and other things that require maintenance have been severely neglected... But, everything else was great. Be prepared to climb up some pretty steep pathways and bring a lot of water."

Park Maintenance and Visitor Experience
Despite these infrastructure challenges, the natural setting itself is consistently praised. The views of the Brokopondo Reservoir are described as wonderful, and the natural environment is beautiful. Visitors are advised to be prepared for this, focusing on the natural attractions rather than expecting pristine facilities. This means bringing your own supplies, being mindful of the trails' condition, and appreciating the raw, untamed nature of the park.
For those who prioritize natural landscapes and adventure over polished amenities, Brownsberg remains a worthwhile destination. The key is to manage expectations regarding infrastructure and to focus on the incredible natural wonders it offers, such as the reservoir views and the refreshing waterfalls.
