What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Skåneleden Trail Österlen is a highly recommended long-distance hike offering diverse scenery and excellent signage. While the 188km route requires planning, especially regarding supplies in inland areas, its manageable stages and beautiful landscapes make it a rewarding experience for hikers of all levels.
"A great long-distance hiking trail in southern Sweden. At 188 km and 14 stages, it's quite long, but manageable, as long as you're not extremely overweight. Since it's a circular trail, you end up back at the starting point in Ystad.
The stages vary between 6 and 24 km, so you can easily combine two stages. This way, you can easily complete the trail in nine to ten days.
Since the trail is located in the far south of Sweden and therefore not too far from Germany, the vegetation isn't much different from ours. If you're hoping to see elk, you'll have to head further north. Nevertheless, the Österlenleden offers diverse natural scenery and a lot to see.
Important: As soon as you leave the sea, you also leave civilization and therefore no longer have any opportunities to shop. We hiked the trail the other way around, so we could use up our own supplies first and then shop for groceries in the second half.
The trail's signage is fantastic—we only got lost when we were chatting and didn't pay attention to the markings :-)
Highly recommended!"
