What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about Gruyères' enchanting medieval atmosphere, picturesque architecture, and the captivating Gruyères Castle. The unique HR Giger Museum and the delicious local cheese are also highlights. Some find the village a bit too 'manufactured' for tourists and can be overly crowded, making service difficult at times.
"Lovely small medieval old town with beautiful Swiss architecture, cobbled stone streets & a castle. Car free!"
Leonie Purvis
"Beautiful little spot. Great place to find a bite and look at the mountains. They also have the castle, and some museums to check out including H.R. Giger museum."
Travis Lahay
"The way they preserved the village and repainted the buildings made it an eye pleasing walk. But looks a little too new. It's a fun experience to walk around but the paint job is a tad modern and the whole look appears manufactured.
The place is easy to navigate. There's a single entrance and a single road. The earlier part has lots of restaurants. the middle part some museums and the end a castle like structure.
I must give it points for being very clean, well kept and maintained. However IMHO it's a place created for tourist and exist purely for tourist to visit. It can be a good thing or it can be a cynical destination, all up to you."
