What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Tunca Bridge is praised for its historical significance and picturesque beauty, especially when illuminated at night. Visitors appreciate its Ottoman architecture and the serene river setting. However, some find the area can be prone to mosquitoes, particularly during warmer evenings.
"On February 28, 2020, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced the opening of the borders for migrants. Following his declaration, we headed to Edirne, intending to reach the border gate.
Our goal was to arrive at the buffer zone between Turkey and Greece and hold a peaceful sit-in there while waiting for a European decision to open the borders for migrants.
On the afternoon of March 5, 2020, we set up our tents in this location. During the night, before dawn on March 6, 2020, the Turkish police attacked us. They stormed our tents, threw tear gas bombs, and then attempted to force us into buses in order to push us toward the Greek border. When we refused, they physically assaulted us.
They wanted to push us across the Maritsa River (Greek: Έβρος / Evros, Turkish: Meriç Nehri) area, where Greek commandos were waiting on the opposite bank to beat the migrants, seize their belongings, and send them back naked."

Spanning the Tunca River, it features 11 arches and blends Ottoman and Byzantine architecture. Named after the commander Gazi Mihal Bey, it served as a key trade and military route.
