Vazelon Monastery in Trabzon is even older than Sumela Monastery. It is currently in ruins and neglected. There are no roads leading to the monastery. The situation is very bad. Restoration is needed.

Hidden deep in the mountains near Trabzon, Vazelon Monastery is one of the oldest monasteries in the Black Sea region. Built in 270 AD, it’s said to be even older than Sumela and …some say it’s haunted! 🏔️✨ The ruins are tucked away in the forest and while the hike up is a bit steep, the views are absolutely worth it ❤️ Save this for your Turkey Road trip ❤️ . #VazelonMonastery #Trabzon #BlackSea...

Visitors praise Vazelon Monastery ruins for their historical significance and the adventurous journey to reach them. The atmospheric ruins and scenic forest hike are highlights, offering a unique experience for those seeking off-the-beaten-path historical sites. However, the challenging access, difficult-to-find path, and the site's neglected state are common drawbacks.

"Amazing abandoned monastery, highlight of our turkey trip so far 😇
We parked at the red dot on the map (where paved road stops), followed the gravel road until the abandoned building, where we followed it left ,(first white dot) until it split again( second white dot), we went right until we were at the destination on maps. This is where the small hiking path starts( takes 10 minutes) and you arrive (last white dot )If you have good clearance and tires, you can drive the whole way to the last path. We recommend walking the 5 km from when the gravel road starts, as it gets you in the mood and it is very pretty. We didn't meet anyone on the way, and spent 2-3 hours in total. Definitely go here if you are into abandoned buildings and historical sites!"

"Very nice (long) walk. Please notice that the final path is very hard to find.
It is only for people who are strong and fit.
We parked the car some distance away, and walked the last distance."

"It was great experience walking into the woods, we have walked about 3 km

The entires is little bit hard , you can park your small car in the small village after the road
Then you walk about 1 km in the car road ( big cars can skip this 1 km )

In the photos i put photos for the entrance"
