Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the breathtaking, impressive scenery of Taroko Gorge, highlighting the helpfulness of Visitor Center staff. However, the 2024 earthquake has significantly impacted accessibility, with many trails closed, making exploration challenging for those relying on public transport. Mosquitoes are also a common nuisance.

"The scene is quite impressive and breathtaking!
However, it might not worth your time and effort if you don't have or can't rent a motorbike. Due to the earthquake in 2024, many scenic points are destroyed, some walking infrastructures are badly damaged and can not accessible
Buses are available but remember to check your time and prepare IC card with at least 300NTD before you come, duration between each trip is 1 hour.
Please be careful of mosquitoes, they might cause you skin reaction if you have sensitive health. Don't worry, the reaction will soon over if you try not to scratch
If possible, recommend to book a tour"

"Trail is now open after the earthquake and so well worth the trip. Some good views and an easy / cheap bus from Hualien train station"

Ben Goldsworthy

"This review is not so much for the park itself which looks like it is gorgeous but for the experience you can currently have if you are traveling by public transportation (this was July 2025). Unfortunately the 2024 earthquake caused huge landslides and damage to the park. We knew this but had trouble finding detailed information about what we could see if we went anyway. We took the bus to the Taroko Gorge Visitors Center which was open and had very helpful staff. Right now, there is one trail open, a steep path to Datong Tribal Village (attached a photo of the map.) You are also allowed to walk the road into the gorge at the times that vehicles are allowed in. This is what we opted to do (second photo attached). We walked about 2 km along the road and through tunnels and did get some nice views. But there is no shoulder so with buses and cars passing it was not the best walking. But it was just a taste! We look forward to being able to see more someday."
