"Wat Suwandararam is in the southeast of Ayutthaya City Island adjacent to Pom Phet Fortress This monastery was built in the late Ayutthaya period. Phra Soontorn Aksorn, Tongde-father of King Rama I, established this monastery in the area of the homestead of the family, and named the monastery that Wat Tong.Later, King Rama I and his younger brother renovated the temple in 1785 A.D. and changed the name of the temple to Suwandararam.
