What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors appreciate the serene atmosphere and historical significance of the Ackworth Quaker Meeting House. While the building itself is lovely, some find the directions to be confusing, often leading them to a nearby garden center instead of the actual school location.
"Lovely small meeting in a large old Meeting House.
Directions took me first to the Garden centre. It's actually about 5 miniutes up the road ( if you are coming from the roundabout side) at the school. If you follow.
The directions to the school you'll be brought into an area where you can't park out front. Need to go out just a little further on to find the car park."

Understanding Quakerism at Ackworth
For those new to Quakerism, visiting the Meeting House offers a chance to observe or participate in a meeting for worship. Unlike many other religious services, Quaker worship is typically unprogrammed, meaning there are no set hymns, readings, or sermons. Instead, participants sit in silence, waiting for spiritual guidance. Anyone moved to speak may do so, and their words are heard as a message for the whole community. This practice fosters a deep sense of shared experience and individual spiritual connection.
Beyond worship, the Meeting House itself holds historical significance. Its architecture often reflects the Quaker emphasis on plainness and functionality. Exploring the building can offer insights into the lives and beliefs of Quakers throughout history. It’s a place where the past and present converge, offering a tranquil sanctuary for contemplation and learning.
