Chef Vaughan at Amisfield takes “wild” dining to a whole new level, serving wapiti deer nestled within its own antlers. 🦌🤯 His approach goes beyond farm-to-table, working exclusively with wild game to honor both the ingredients and the ecosystems they come from. Sourced from the pristine wilderness of Fiordland, New Zealand, the wapiti - a giant elk - is dry aged for 90 days, then combined with a ...

"Looked after by volunteers, lovely walled garden that once belonged to a big house. Produce for sale. There was a nice Autumn exhibition on. Plenty of free parking. Donations for upkeep"

Chris Gale

"My mum and I visited this garden in mid-October, and there's no entrance fee required.

You can feel the love and care that has gone into the plants. Every plant is in great condition; some are a bit wilted, but they stand tall and strong.

We were fortunate to visit this time of year, as there were lots of apples on the trees and even more varieties available in the store.

Everything here is nice and tidy. It’s clear there’s a wonderful community supporting the garden, with about 80 volunteers who help maintain it. It was a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

Most importantly, this is a dog-friendly spot, so you can bring your dog on a short leash.

As for directions, I used Apple Maps, and it’s easy to miss the entrance. Once you arrive at the final destination on the map, you’ll see a sign stating that the gate closes at 4 PM on weekdays. We confirmed we were in the right place.

We will definitely return next year!"

"Lovely volunteer run walled garden on the outskirts of Haddington. The gardens were looking very good when we visited in mid-august with a wide variety of perennials and shrubs on show. There is also an orchard, some open grass areas and a developing maze too. The volunteers and staff were very friendly and we had a nice chat with a number of them. The work they do here is very rewarding for them and also visitors too. A donation is welcome either at the small cabin on entry or can be done online. Well worth a visit to see the great work they do."
