Reviews Summary

Visitors find Ardrossan Castle to be a site of historical interest with impressive views, though its ruined state and occasional issues with local youths require awareness. The free access and informative boards are appreciated, making it a worthwhile stop for history buffs and scenery seekers. Reddit+1

"There are significant remains of what was once a quite significant castle that dates back to the 1400's although it's reckoned that there had been a castle on the site as early as 1140. William Wallace largely destroyed it after he captured it in battle, then the rebuilt castle was burned down after an attack in 1528 and then Oliver Cromwells troops finally demolished it and reused the stone elsewhere. Helpful information boards explain the history and associated events. Certainly worth visiting but it also seems to be a hangout for some dodgy characters."

"The gate was open for us to view the castle which was great to see the ruins of history. The entrances to the castle itself has been closed off. Still great 360⁰ views when inside the grounds as per pictures."
