The donation-based entry and free parking are highlighted as great value. Some visitors note that while the ruins are interesting, the main draw is the natural beauty and animal encounters.

"Was on English Heritage there, it was free entry, just for donations. Have a free car park. Other day admission is £5 for adults and £2.50 for children 5 years and older. Great nature trail, walk and lots of seating places with picnic tables with view of river"

"A fantastic place for a stroll and a picnic. The whole site is well cared for with excellent informational panels spanning a diverse history from medieval to modern.
The riverside walk is excellent and one of many routes where you can discover the local wildlife. Plus they have goats!"

James Kimpton

"A stunning place to visit, we soon found when we got there that it is not only castle ruins to see. As well as the castle and gazebo there is a beautiful Riverside Walk, 2 fishing ponds and tank testing site. We also enjoyed feeding the goats and a well earned cuppa when we got back to exit. Staff were friendly and most helpful. We didn't see the Kingfisher, but saw a Jay, damselflies and Mayflies, lots of butterflies and a rabbit whilst walking around. The Teddy bears picnic and wooden rabbits and owls were great to see, and found a ribbon that one of the rabbits were missing and tied it back on."
