Planning Your Visit

Dress for the Elements

Beachy Head is known for its dramatic cliffs and stunning sea views, but also for its unpredictable winds. Pack layers and consider waterproofs, even on a sunny day. Sturdy walking shoes are a must, especially if you plan on hiking the cliff paths or exploring the Seven Sisters.

Timing Your Visit for the Lighthouse

While the cliffs are always accessible, reaching the iconic Beachy Head Lighthouse requires careful planning around the tides. Low tide is essential, but not all low tides are suitable. Check tide times meticulously and consider joining an organized charity walk for a guided experience.

Beachy Head is a breathtaking location in East Sussex. You’ll need a bus ride from Brighton or Eastbourne to get there. Buses run every half an hour. The stop is Beachy Head pub. It’s usually quite windy there, so try to wear layers. Also in rain it gets muddy there, so hiking boots would be a great choice. Obviously it’s a great place for hiking, but if you’re not used to it, you can walk fro...

I always wanted to visit Beachy head from the moment I saw it it in pictures. It’s the highest chalk sea cliff in Britain which is 531 ft above sea level. The lighthouse below the cliff makes it even more surreal. Here is how you can visit the place : - 🚂 Board a direct train from London Bridge to Eastbourne - 🚌 Board 13X coaster bus from Gildredge stop f to Beachy Head (or Belle toute lighthou...

Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the breathtaking views and dramatic scenery of Beachy Head, with many highlighting the iconic lighthouse and cliff walks. The Beachy Head pub is a popular spot for its location and food, though some reviews mention occasional service inconsistencies. The unpredictable weather is a common factor, but most agree the stunning landscape is well worth braving the elements.

"Great spot to take a break from the cliff side walks. The service was lovely. Some of the customers need to consider the value of kindness to workers providing them a service. The views are amazing. It was too cold to sit outside but I’d love to come back here for pudding or a drink!"

"We visited The Beachy Head on a recommendation from a couple that rate it highly enough to dine here on Christmas Day every year - so figured it must have something about it. We were so pleased we gave it a go!

If you're going for a Sunday roast they seem popular, so worth booking ahead - like we did - via the website, guaranteeing a table when you want it.

It's no exageration when I say we had the best roast dinners we've enjoyed in quite some time - which is impressive considering the number of roast dinners they were producing during our visit! The pork belly was perfect, and there were so many flavours to enjoy on the plate (I don't think I've ever had roasted apple before).

That in itself was great, but the views from out table looking back towards Birling Gap were stunning, while the ambience in the place made for a lively, but cosy way to warm up from a bracing walk.

Excellent service, too, from our server who was communicative and attentive throughout.

Sometimes you get a great tip-off about somewhere to visit. Trust me, this is definitely one of them..."

"Great pub in a great location. Went here during seven sisters hike.

The place was very busy and service was quick. Most of the food items were well done; unfortunately our chips were undercooked, and we had a difficult time getting their attention to get a replacement. They did replace, but only after we were done with our meal.

We will definitely visit again."
