The village is one of the most successful examples of a planned community. William Lever, co-founder of Lever Brothers, had a vision to provide his workforce at the Sunlight Soap factory with quality accommodation in an attractive environment. This vision, inspired by the idea that better surroundings would promote better working practices, was clearly a success. The popularity of the village today is testament to its lasting appeal.
The museum offers an insight into the village's history, with well presented displays and a short film. The village is free to enter but there's a charge for the museum.
It's well worth taking a walk around the village to see the array of attractive buildings, with designs inspired by the historic architecture of Cheshire and Lancashire. Look out in particular for the impressive war memorial, Dell garden and tea room.

Also check out the Sunlight museum that gives you an overview of the history of the brand, the company, and background information on the building of this village. When you purchase a ticket to the museum you can also visit one of the old houses that is still decorated as it was back then. Have fun!! 🌷"
