"I spotted this museum on a short visit to Biggar, decided to take a look inside, and ended up spending more than two enjoyable hours here. Paid £6 admission in the little gift shop near the entrance. The lady at the reception desk was very welcoming and told me everything I needed to know about what there was to see. The museum is only small, with everything on one floor, but it's packed with fascinating exhibits that tell the story of Biggar and its surrounding area from prehistory to the present day. From geology, prehistoric stone tools and models of early dwellings to the furniture, costumes and artefacts of more recent centuries, everything is well displayed and clearly labelled, and there's lots of info about important events and prominent people through the ages. But the highlight for me was the Victorian street and alleyways at the back of the museum, and the little shops with their creaky floors and dimly lit interiors crammed with merchandise of all kinds. You can have fun operating the telephone exchange or playing hopscotch in the street. I loved it! There was also a side gallery with an exhibition of beautiful wildlife photos. There are toilets, and a few parking spaces for visitors in front of the museum. No café in the museum itself (but there's a nice café just a couple of strides away). All in all, this was a great little discovery well worth visiting!"

"A fantastic museum with so much to see and do. I loved using the original switchboard to connect telephone calls, along with all of the exhibits of local shops. The Ian Hamilton Findlay exhibition was excellent, as enjoyable as the one that Edinburgh mounted. Do go, you won't be disappointed. The bookshop at the other end of town is a great followup."
