What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Blackfriars Oxford for its beautiful architecture and serene gardens, offering a peaceful escape. The welcoming congregation and opportunities for prayer and reflection are frequently highlighted. However, one review noted an inappropriate interaction with a children's liturgy leader, leading to a negative experience.
"We've experienced a form of very inappropriate behaviour by one of the children's liturgy leaders towards our young son at family mass. This person who is present at mass regularly took it upon herself to educate our son on how to behave in church. I (mother) did not consent to her grabbing my son and shushing him, using threatening language ("If you keep acting like this, etc..."). After addressing this with the children's liturgy leader, she accused me of making it all up. When I raised a complaint to one of the priests at the end of mass, I was told she was well-meaning, which is so unhelpful and affirming of her inappropriate behaviour. We will not be coming back unfortunately."

"Don't fear: Blackfriars are domenican friars, so they are white dressed and is possible to pray office with them. Very nice church, silent, help prayer and adoration."
Davide Righi
"I go most Sundays to the 9.30 Mass. It has the most friendly and active congregation and very inclusive and welcoming."
