"Great walk to the lake, but you need to set yourself up to go up and up, asking local people how to find the lake. When we reached the lake, we only managed to see it from above, as the entrance was filled up, but even so it was very beautiful. We walked around the lake as it is a very beautiful area."

"A must see!! The whole experience was just so unique. We absolutely loved the short walk up as the panoramic view of the coast got better and better.
After the animal swing gate from the road, it's a steep walk up a gravel path. Then there's 3 or 4 gorgeous stone archways that are great for taking pics. Eventually the path opens up to a flat area with an old axle. From there you can walk through the small archway to the water, or walk up the steep berm to get a birds eye view of the lake. It's super deep and very clear water."

Exploring the Blue Lake: A Hidden Gem
Upon arrival, visitors can often see the lake from above, with some noting that direct access to the water's edge has been restricted due to past misuse of the site. This means the experience might involve admiring its beauty from a vantage point rather than getting right up close. Despite this, the sheer visual impact of the vibrant blue water against the quarry landscape is a significant draw.
Key features on the walk include several charming stone archways, which are perfect for photography, and an old axle adding to the industrial history of the site. While the walk is generally considered easy, the steepness and potential for muddy conditions mean sturdy footwear is a must. It's a place that offers a sense of discovery and natural beauty, making it a worthwhile stop for those exploring the Fairbourne area.
Safety and Considerations for Visitors
It's strongly advised to wear appropriate footwear, such as sturdy walking boots, as the paths can be steep and become very muddy, especially after rainfall. This is crucial for maintaining balance and preventing slips. While dogs are welcome, they should be kept under control, and visitors should be mindful of the terrain for their pets as well.
Due to the potential hazards, the Blue Lake is generally not recommended for young children to explore unsupervised. Adults should exercise extreme caution and be aware of their surroundings at all times. The experience is best enjoyed by those who are prepared for a moderate walk and understand the inherent risks associated with exploring such natural, undeveloped sites.
