"Just walking into the churchyard you immediately identify an old church that is perhaps something Saxon but clearly of Norman build, at least in parts. Then further additions took over in ca. 17th and 19th cent. at a boom time for church expansion, with restoration work more recently. The end product is a church somewhat concealed yet central to the town. Make time to see the nearby St Nicholas column, perhaps of later 17th c."
