Reviews Summary

Visitors note that Builth Castle Earthworks is primarily an earthwork site, not a stone castle, requiring imagination to appreciate its historical significance. While some find it underwhelming, others appreciate the free access and the opportunity to explore remnants of medieval fortifications with a bit of prior research.

"Contrary to other reviews, there is a considerable amount to see at Builth castle, provided that you understand what you are looking at. It was one of King Edward I's early castles in Wales, improving on an earlier motte and bailey site that was constructed in ringwork and motte form. A bit of preliminary research helps, then fun can be had, working out what used to be there, the location of the entrance and so-on. And it's free."
