After we had a nice walk down to the little town . Lots of places to eat . There's so much more to do there. A good day out for all ."

"🌟 Cheddar Gorge & Jacob’s Ladder – A Stunning Day Out in Somerset

We spent a fantastic day exploring Cheddar Gorge, and it’s easily one of the most striking natural landscapes in the UK. The towering limestone cliffs make for a dramatic backdrop, and the entire area has a raw, rugged beauty that photos just don’t do justice.

We began with the cave tours—starting with Gough’s Cave, which is impressively vast and well-lit, offering a glimpse into thousands of years of geological history. Cox’s Cave, though smaller, is beautifully lit and slightly theatrical—more fun for families or younger visitors. It felt a little touristy at points, but still worth it for the sheer natural wonder.

The real highlight, though, was the climb up Jacob’s Ladder. It’s a fairly steep 274-step ascent, but completely manageable with a few pauses—and the view from the top is absolutely breathtaking. Once you reach the summit, the clifftop walk is peaceful and panoramic. On a clear day, you can see all the way to Glastonbury Tor and even across the Somerset Levels.

What we appreciated most was the contrast—underground beauty in the caves and sweeping open-air views from above. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water, especially if you plan to do the longer ridge walk.

A few tips: avoid peak tourist hours if you want to enjoy the serenity, and try to park a little outside the main area to skip the expensive lots. Also, don’t miss the local cheese shops—Cheddar really does live up to its name!

A perfect mix of nature, adventure, and history. Great for families, solo hikers, and curious explorers alike."

"We booked the Cheddar Gorge and Caves experience as a family of four (around £100), and it was absolutely worth every penny!

From exploring the fascinating caves to climbing Jacob’s Ladder and tackling the cliff-top walk, it was a day full of adventure. Being surrounded by such stunning natural beauty made it even more special, and the views were simply breathtaking.

An unforgettable experience – money well spent!"
