What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Calton Hill for its absolutely stunning panoramic views of Edinburgh, making it a must-visit landmark. The historical monuments and the Collective art space add layers of interest, though the walk up can be a bit of a slog. It's a popular spot, especially at sunset, so expect crowds.
"While walking around the monuments, the Collective is a series of buildings with artwork, exhibits of local history and a store. The artwork is interesting as it is not what you would expect. It is more of an exhibit to get you to think a bit about what the artist was trying to communicate.
The store is small, but does have some nice merchandise for purchase. I liked the exhibit showing the telescope that was used to view the stars.
These buildings also give you a break from the elements if you are a little overwhelmed. Take a break at the cafe for a cool or hot drink to keep you refreshed from all the walking."
Daniel Grove
"I'm a regular visitor to the gallery and shop. It's a bit of a slog getting up the hill but the gallery and view make it worthwhile. Exhibition was fairly quiet despite it being almost peak tourist season."
Mike Howard
"Worth a visit for the panoramic views of the city. In addition, there are interesting exhibition. Don't miss to visit the gift shop to learn about the astronomy and see the telescope."
