Reviews Summary

Visitors find Cyfarthfa Ironworks historically significant, offering a glimpse into Merthyr Tydfil's past as an iron capital. The scale of the furnaces and the connection to the Crawshaw family's empire are highlights. However, the lack of facilities and fenced-off areas mean it's more of a historical site than a traditional attraction.

"Currently this historic site is not a museum and as such has no facilities at all, the area is fenced off with barbed wire and razor ribbon Although the site has great importance with the history of steam power there is no museum there."

Ian McBryde

"So fascinating, thr Crawshaw family built an empire in their time and Cyfarthfa Castle was supplied with iron for their creature comforts. There is a guide produced in the Castle detailing the Crawshaw family's wealth and status in the community. There are many other areas in relation to the Crawshaw family. The Pandy clock has three faces, which was designed to ensure the workers at the Castle could not see the time. There is also evidence that the Crawshaw family used Cyfarthfa leat to transport materials and slat from the Gurnos Quarry to the Castle. Fascinating stuff, the brochure or guide is very informative and an interesting reflection on the past."
