Sensational, but tough winter trail run in the Lake District up Fairfield Horseshoe, (starting from Ambleside). Bobby dazzler of a day, but think it’ll be a good few days until my legs recover #runtok #runner #trailrunning #Running #lakedistrict #runningmotivation #ultrarunning

Reviews Summary

The Fairfield Horseshoe is a classic, rewarding Lake District hike, celebrated for its eight Wainwright summits and stunning panoramic views. While challenging due to its length and terrain, it's considered achievable for moderately fit individuals. Many praise the clockwise route for its scenic progression and recommend an early start to avoid crowds and enjoy the tranquility.

"A classic Lake District "horseshoe" walk, taking in eight summits over 12 miles. If you're a seasoned hillwalker it's pretty easy — if you're new to the hills, allow plenty of time, but it's still in reach of most moderately fit people. Oh, and do the loop clockwise (e.g. Nab Scar first, ending on Low Pike) — it's massively better that way round, both in terms of the climb and the views."

Andy Bannister

"Gorgeous hike, lots of stunning views will return to do it again"

Brian Rutherfoord Jones

"Great walk on the Fairfield horseshoe. Early start, 8.00 so very quiet but runners started to overtake me after about an hour. Very cold on the summit but the various summit shelters provided good wind breaks. Vicious windchill and lots of rine frost around. As I came down by the bad step the temperature started rising. Fished out a route to the left of the bad step coming down, and helped others. Head for the bush on the rocks and an easier descent is there."
