Visitor Centre Status

While the main visitor centre's cafe may be closed from April 2025, the bike shop, changing facilities, and toilets are expected to remain open. Plan to bring your own snacks and drinks, especially if visiting outside of peak hours or when the cafe is confirmed closed.

Coed y Brenin is a 45 minute drive from the cottage. The main centre itself has a cafe and a bike hire shop with lots of walking and cycling routes you can take around the forest park. We started off at the Tyddyn Gwladys car park to explore the 2 waterfalls and stopped off for a picnic on the circular route around the river 💚 #coedybrenin #forest #forestwalks #explore #cyclehire #bikehire #mount...

Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Coed y Brenin for its stunning natural beauty, particularly its waterfalls and serene forest environment. It's a highly-rated destination for mountain biking with well-maintained trails for all levels. Some visitors note the potential closure of the cafe and advise bringing own provisions, but the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive.

"We took the hardest walk with our dog and enjoyed the lovely surroundings and the waterfalls mid way and at the top. Not as spectacular as some as it’s a hydro plant, but still nice to look at. It took us a little over 2 hours to do and we are 60 and 64 but very active. Some slippy points on the way back (large pebbles and tree roots) and is very steep at times so ensure you wear appropriate footwear and bring lots of water to drink!"

Maureen Leonard

"Lovely secluded spot to stop and enjoy the surroundings. There are several easy walks around the forest park, nothing too strenuous, and plenty of shade. Paths are well kept and not muddy. There is a small car park with picnic tables and benches.

Despite being only a few miles from Dolgellau (and around 1.5 miles from the car park for the Precipice Walk) this place feels very much off the beaten track, and I've only ever seen a few people when I have visited.

There is additional car parking slightly further up the road towards Dolgellau, I've always come into this area from the Abergiew side, down very narrow single track roads (with passing places) but the road in from Dolgellau is probably easier.

Well worth seeking out and visiting if peace and quiet and just the sound of nature and the stream running through are what you like.

There are no toilet facilities here (but these can be found at the main car park close by for the Precipice Walk."

"Coed-y-Brenin, suitable for all riding abilities, from easy to ride blue trails, to more advance technical black rated trails. At the time of writing the cafe and centre are still open, but from 1/4/25 the visitors centre will be closed. The main building has excellent changing facilities and showers. There is a bike shop on site which provides excellent service and advise and hiring of bikes. Who knows what the long term plans will bring for the location as a whole. NRW has limited money and older trails these days haven’t been maintained. There are other trails open to biking known to more local riders, worth visiting, just go prepared with a flask of coffee and food until the cafe opens again"
