Reviews Summary

Visitors find Springwell Lock a charming and surprisingly rural spot, ideal for observing canal life and enjoying nature walks. However, the significant issue of limited and often unavailable parking, coupled with some less-than-ideal boat moorings, detracts from the experience for many. Reddit

"Delightful spot just 5 minutes from M25 however the car park is currently fenced off and locked up.

Bankside to River Colne being developed at the site of the car park by the lock

Limited parking on Springwell Lane.

The old car park on Springwell Lane closer to the main road by the entrance to Springwell Lake is permanently closed.

It may be a struggle to find a spot to park. There is however free public parking at the large well attended car park at Rickmansworth Aquadrome about a mile up the canal.

This lock is on a circular walk around nature reserves to the west of the Grand Union Canal."

Nicole Hay-Carter

"The lock and bridge are lovely and the carpark is just a stones throw away. However, the area of canal up towards Rickmansworth has long term moorings, and some of the boats are in a state. I never feel happy walking or cycling along there."

Robbob Tun

"Pleasant setting on the Union Canal with the towpath passing some rolling farmland and former watercress beds. Cross the Sewage Works β€œpipe bridge”, savour the aroma (heading north) and pass by the inaccessible Springwell Reedbeds. Some original and minor historical remnants, partly obscured along this stretch of the towpath."
