Embrace the Vastness: Prepare for a Long Walk

Holkham Beach is famously expansive, meaning the walk from the car park to the water's edge can be considerable, especially at low tide. Wear comfortable shoes and consider bringing a beach trolley if you have a lot of gear. The dunes offer some wind shelter, but it can still get breezy.

Dog-Friendly Paradise with a Catch

Dogs are welcome year-round, a huge plus for many visitors! However, from April 1st to August 30th, an on-lead policy is in effect in certain areas to protect nesting birds. Always check signage and be mindful of other visitors and wildlife.

Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Holkham Beach for its stunning, vast sandy expanse and natural beauty, making it ideal for long walks and dog owners. However, the significant walk from the car park and the potential for strong winds are frequently mentioned drawbacks. Parking costs can also be a point of contention for some.

"Stunning beach and wetlands, easily accessible with a cafe and great boardwalk leading to the overview. Don't get stuck between the waterways, boots are needed are get your dogs out. Speaking of, lots of dogs around but keep them on a leash around the bird nesting areas (these are signed)"

Matthew Vandeputte

"I went with my family to this beach and I must say that my impression is quite positive, because the beach is huge. There was a very strong unpleasant wind, it blew our tent and windbreaks, umbrellas from the beach. I saw that some people do not listen to the prohibitions and let their dogs off the leash when children were nearby. A dog without a leash jumped on my husband and scratched my legs, I had to wash the wound because the blood was flowing, it was an unpleasant sight. Parking is expensive and you have to be quick, be there early in the morning to find a free space. From the parking lot there was a bridge to the entrance to the obstacle, which turned out to be far inland and you have to reckon with the fact that you have to walk a long way to the water. The beach is wide, small shells, pebbles, there are also dunes, it is best to hide there from the wind, which is strong. In general, the area is clean. From time to time a patrol passes by, but it only passes by, does not stop and does not check dogs that walk without a leash.
paid parking (it is worth taking a ticket for the whole day £13), spaces for disabled people, reservations required, I saw spaces for electric cars."

"Gorgeous beach - massive especially at low tide, with dunes soft sand, salt marshes, pine forest, you name it. Great for families and doggos. Easily accessible with parking and a cafe nearby."
