SCOTLAND’S ARTISTS’ TOWN 🎨😍 📍 Kirkcudbright (pronounced kir-coo-bree) We passed through this town on our South West Coast 300 road trip last spring. It was a peaceful town full of art galleries and cosy cafes, and has become known as Scotland’s artists’ town 🎨🖌️ It is well worth a visit if you are planning to drive the SWC300 road trip, and can also make a great base to explore the south west o...

"Good range of quality gifts in the shop upon entry.
Galleries located on floors G, 1 &2, lift and loos available if required. Cafe on 1st floor, not used, but looked good!"

"Free parking in street outside the gallery and free to enter to with 3 floors and a shop and cafe and toilets. The lower 2 floors had a good display of paintings from the area and some good summaries of the artists and pointing out things of interest without being too detailed.
The top floor was exhibiting part of the Galloway Hoard which was so beautiful. The member of staff in that room was very well informed and we enjoyed chatting to her about it and the rest of the hoard.
The gallery is a real asset to the town. I would very much liked to visit again."

"First time visiting Kirkcudbright galleries, and it was an enjoyable experience.

I came specifically to see the Mary Queen of Scots silver casket, as I love the history of Mary. It was absolutely stunning, and I'm thrilled to have had the opportunity to see it up close . The female staff member inside the room was friendly and took time to have a little chat with me about the casket's weight. The room was not busy, so we had plenty of time to take pictures and have a good browse.

The gallery had other levels downstairs, which were interesting. It displayed a celebration of works including jewellery, ceramics, and drawings from Jessie Marion King.

The cafe was busy, which was a shame as we were all in need of something to eat and drink . The gift shop is located on the ground floor and had some nice items .

The building is pram and wheelchair accessible. We managed to find a car parking space outside without issue . There was no entry charge, so we made a donation instead beside Mary's casket.

I would recommend a visit"
