What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Hales Wood is praised as a peaceful, intimate spot for nature lovers, with highlights like ancient coppiced woodland and wildlife sightings. Visitors appreciate the opportunity to unwind and connect with the surroundings. However, the very limited parking and small size mean it's more of a quiet retreat than a large nature reserve, and muddy conditions are common.
"This park sounds like a peaceful, intimate spot for enjoying nature and wildlife. Tree benches for observation make it easy to sit back and connect with the surroundings, and spotting grouses hiding in the fields adds a unique charm. However, the limited parking and small size make it feel more like a quiet retreat than a full nature reserve. While it's perfect for a walk with kids, it seems dogs are best kept on leads due to the wildlife and the chance they might get into muddy or swampy areas. A wonderful place to meditate and unwind!"

"Nice peaceful walk around this ancient coppiced wood. Work seems to be in progress to re-coppice parts of it. Nice to see the orchids still out in late May.
Even found an ash tree with an old bees nest in that still had the honeycombs inside.
Can get muddy in places so walking boots suggested if it's been raining.
The wood is in two parts as it's bisected by an old track.
Go round the right hand wood first then as you head back go round the other wood.
Very small free carpark for 3 cars just off the main road. Make sure you park sensibly and are able to drive out forward as visibility on to the road is poor.
Dogs allowed but no poo bins so take it home, Don't leave it!!"
Colin
"This ENT wood could benefit owners and locals (wood burner owners) if a wood management expert was brought in one weekend to collect fallen trees for peopleβs homes, and for benefit of ground plants.
Some position signage around site would be useful for walkers seeking exit."
