Aberglasney Gardens in Wales are spectacular - and a fabulous example of how permaculture ideas can be tucked into every garden. You could call this an ‘edimental’ garden - ornamental and edible. There is a huge amount of edible plants throughout the gardens - up walls, as borders, a 200 year old centrepiece pear, interspersed throughout. Thank you so much to fellow permaculture designer, autho...

The gardens are particularly stunning in autumn with changing colours. TikTok

The perfect antidote to the snow, the Ninfarium at @aberglasney in Carmarthen. Created by covering the old ruins of the house with a glass atrium, it has become an oasis of warmth filled with temperate and sub tropical plants. It’s really quite magical 🌿

"Absolutely lovely. We've been a few times over the years but despite the long dry spell in summer of 2025, it's the best we've ever seen it.

The team who tend these gardens must really put the work in, and love their jobs. I salute them. The place is an absolute joy and not to be missed.

Nice tea shop too!"

"This place is a must see, if you are in the area I would recommend that you take a few hours to enjoy these gardens. I had a wonderful time discovering this place last Sunday, the weather was a little inclement but I was able to really appreciate the scents, colours and different forms of plants on display. Full marks to the gardening team and I shall be returning in the not too distant future."

David Reynolds

"What a beautiful Spring day to visit these beautiful gardens! We spent 7 hours strolling around the grounds in the sunshine, stopping off at the lovely (and very reasonably priced) tea room for lunch and later, for afternoon coffee. I bought a few plants at the shop on my way out.
A very peaceful and joyful day out in nature, far away from a world of chaos."

The Magic of the Ninfarium

The Ninfarium at Aberglasney Gardens is a truly unique feature, ingeniously created by covering the old ruins of the house with a glass atrium. This architectural marvel has transformed a historical footprint into a vibrant, warm sanctuary for a diverse collection of temperate and subtropical plants. It's described as an oasis, offering a magical escape, especially appealing when the weather outside is less forgiving. Instagram

Visitors often highlight the Ninfarium as a must-see, appreciating the ingenuity and the lush greenery it houses. It's a testament to how historical structures can be repurposed to create new and exciting botanical experiences. The contrast between the ancient ruins and the thriving plant life within the glass structure is particularly striking, making it a memorable part of any visit. Instagram

This space provides a year-round attraction, ensuring that Aberglasney Gardens remains a captivating destination regardless of the season. The controlled environment allows for the cultivation of plants that might not otherwise survive in the Welsh climate, adding to the garden's overall diversity and appeal. Instagram

A Year-Round Garden Experience

Aberglasney Gardens are celebrated for their beauty throughout the year, offering something special in every season. While spring brings a burst of peak blooms and autumn paints the landscape in vibrant foliage, the gardens are designed to be appreciated at any time. TikTokInstagram

Even during dry spells, the gardens have been noted for their exceptional condition, a testament to the dedication of the gardening team. This consistent care ensures that visitors can always expect a well-maintained and visually stunning environment. The variety of plants means there's always something new to discover, whether it's the delicate unfurling of spring buds or the rich hues of autumn leaves. Reddit

The inclusion of features like the Ninfarium further enhances the year-round appeal, providing a warm, green escape even in cooler months. This commitment to continuous beauty makes Aberglasney Gardens a destination worth revisiting throughout the year to witness its ever-changing character. InstagramReddit

The Art of Edimental Gardening

Aberglasney Gardens showcases a fascinating approach to gardening that blends the ornamental with the edible, often referred to as 'edimental' gardening. This philosophy is evident throughout the grounds, where a huge variety of edible plants are integrated seamlessly into the landscape. Instagram

Visitors can observe edible plants used as borders, climbing walls, and even as a 200-year-old centerpiece pear tree. This thoughtful integration not only adds to the visual appeal but also highlights sustainable and practical gardening techniques. It's an inspiring example of how beauty and utility can coexist harmoniously in a garden setting. Instagram

The allotment area is another prime example of this concept, featuring low apple hedging and diagonal planting interspersed with beautiful flowers. This design attracts pollinators and showcases the bounty of produce, demonstrating a holistic approach to garden design that is both aesthetically pleasing and productive. Instagram
