What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors are captivated by the unique 'vanishing' nature of Loughareema Lake, a truly mysterious phenomenon. While some find it a bit sparse in terms of activities, the natural beauty and the intriguing standing stones make it a worthwhile stop for those seeking unusual landscapes. The experience is enhanced by witnessing the lake's dramatic changes throughout the day.
"We had the opportunity to see a very interesting place during our trip to Northern Ireland. The vanishing lake appears and disappears twice daily because of the tide and draining hole in its bed. Impressive."
Yordanka Markova
"A wonderful and mysterious little lake that sometimes is there and other times it isn't. That's why it has earned itself the name 'Vanishing Lake'. The reason the water disappears is due to a 'plug-hole' on the bed of the lake. Sometimes this plug hole gets blocked by mud and the lake fills up. When the mud disperses it allows the water to drain away."
Scott Quee
"Interesting place though there is not a lot to do here."
