Have you discovered the hidden treasure around Melbourne in Derbyshire ? A cottage where you can buy and donate books, secret alleys surrounded by beautiful gardens. Or the historic church with its VE Day poppy display. Topped off with a potter around the shops in the Melbourne hall courtyard and the perfect Pint and bite to eat here at The Brewhouse. Not just a stop but a destination. #melbourned...

The hall's interior, though open for limited periods, is appreciated for its family home feel and historical significance. "Melbourne is a lovely village to walk around and explore. The hall is only open in August but there are some lovely walks around the grounds including "The Pool" which give some great views. There is a tea room and some craft shops behind the hall. If you want to go for a relaxing walk, grab an ice cream or tea it is a peaceful and great area to explore."

"Melbourne Hall is only open in August but it is well worth a visit. It's complicated architecturally and to be honest I didn't really understand its architectural history fully but that didn't matter. It's still very obviously a family home as most HHA places are and it is the better for it. Lots of family photos everywhere and lots of wonderful paintings by the Marchioness. Many historical figures have lived here including Lord Melbourne, Queen Victoria's first PM and Lady Caroline Lamb, Byron's lover. The Dining Room and the hall were especially memorable."

Mark Short

"“Hidden Gem of Melbourne.”

This garden is a treasure. There are extensive, abstract, organically shaped and trimmed yew hedges. Water features, spouting fountains, ponds and streams. As an ardent arborphile, I could not believe my luck seeing so many delicious trees I’d not encountered before. My “Picture This” App was struggling to keep up with my demands. Don’t worry too if flowers are more your thing as there are amazing colourful blooms and textured foliage to make you smile.
There are so many quiet corners and cosy nooks to sit in and contemplate the wonders you’ve just seen and no doubt photographed.
Open sunny lawns, perhaps a picnic next time."
