What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors appreciate the historical context provided by informative boards and the lovely panoramic views of Oswestry from the mound's summit. However, the site's main drawback is the very steep steps, making it inaccessible for those with mobility issues, and the limited physical remains of the castle itself.
"Not much actual castle to see but worth it for the view of Oswestry. There are good signs around too to learn about the site and it's history. The steps are very steep so may not be suitable for those with lower levels of mobility."
Flora Stanbridge
"There isn't really a great deal to see now, just a few fragments atop of the castle motte. That's inevitable though considering it's location and all the conflicts between the English and the Welsh, and even Cromwells troops during the Civil War. The first recorded mention of a castle here was in 1086 in the Doomsday Book. It was obviously neglected for many years but due to the efforts in recent times there is an information board and what remains deserves to be preserved."
Nuts
"Lovely castle ruins not the castle but some brilliant information on the boards available be careful the step are very very step nearly fell up no disabled accessible as to step.but a brilliant monument for the city of Oswestry"
