Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Purbeck Mining Museum as a 'hidden gem' and 'little corker,' highlighting its fascinating insights into local clay mining history. The knowledgeable and friendly volunteers, many of whom are ex-miners, are frequently commended for their engaging stories and helpful context. Its convenient location at Norden Station, often combined with a steam train ride, adds to its appeal as a worthwhile and educational stop.

"Great museum with lots of informational content and interactive displays to provide an engaging time for all! The guide at the entrance was friendly, helpful and gave us lots of information to set the context and engage my kids (aged 9 and 13).

We went on a family day trip to Corfe castle on the steam train to Norden (there is also a big car park at Norden next to the museum). Norden station is at the end of the trainline and the museum is conveniently located just behind the station and a 20-30 minute scenic walk away from corfe castle.

Definitely recommend as a great addition to a trip to Norden and/or Corfe castle!"

"A hidden gem and free museum at Norden station providing a great insight into the history and long association of clay mining in the Purbecks and excellent local artist’s exhibition showcasing the transportation of clay by boat from Poole Harbour!"

Andy Cobb

"Very original, unmolested clay mine. The last digging was done in 1999. Closed, care of health and safety!! Very interesting exhibits and equipment. An ex miner was on site when we visited. They have a narrow gauge railway which they occasionally have running. Well worth a visit. Free to enter but they would like a donation."
