Reviews Summary

Ridlins Wood is a beloved local nature reserve, particularly praised by dog walkers for its well-maintained paths and natural beauty along Aston End Brook. Visitors appreciate the opportunity for wildlife spotting and the presence of a rare peat bog. However, the lack of amenities like benches and sufficient bins is a recurring point of feedback.

"Good for local dog walkers.

Modest nature reserve set up like a chicane around Aston End Brook.

Access to the north. No official parking but there's a grassy verge with room for several cars at the access point.

The only bin is by the access point. There are no benches or seating. The grassy channels for walking were well kept and seemed recently trimmed (we went in November.)

Surrounded by Goddard End housing estate to the NW and Stevenage golf club to the S and E.

My daughter went for a stomp in the brook. It was very shallow but signage seems to indicate the area is prone to flooding.

We saw the usual pigeons and parakeets, and a plethora of small birds. We accidentally flushed out a large bird of prey from the undergrowth - presume it was chomping on something. It wasn't a Kite and I don't think it was a buzzard but it was big. We saw an Egret on the golf course end.

Think the cats in Goddard End must love popping over for a roam."

"Nice walk beside Aston End Brook, down to a grassed area and then back up the other side. Ideal for a dog walk. Should imagine it's even better in the summer."
