The line of the Roman road leading to the East gate of Ambleside fort can still be seen as a low rise in the dry stone wall it runs underneath #lakedistrict #archaeology #ambleside #romanbritain

It’s #FunFactFriday and nearly the weekend!! Today’s fun fact is something to think about next time you’re walking, driving or bussing down #EastHill East Gate is another of Roman Colchester’s gateways and entrances to the Colonia. We still use it a lot now, even though the actual gate has now gone! You can still just see the remnants of the Roman Wall next to the church of St James the Great!

"It's the old roman city wall located below street level, so you can't really see it, it's just one of those historic things in the city and isn't worth that much of a visit unless you're passing by. Pretty cool but not a big deal."

"This was a roman gate into the Roman City of Lincoln. There's not much to see as you peer over the wall. It's not worth going out of your way to see and could be made a bigger deal of"
