A day walking to and then climbing the Roman Steps in the Rhinogs range. Apparently they're actually a medieval drovers path rather than Roman. So if you were arguing "what have the Romans ever done for us?" you could use this as tenuous ammunition. I'm sure the Romans would have made it straight and added a handrail too.... . . . . . #wales #discovercymru #thewalescollective #lovewales #thegreato...

The Roman Steps 😍 A mountain pass between Rhinog Fawr and Clogwyn Pot. The Rhinogs don't have the height of the more well-known ranges like Snowdon, but they have an epicness all of their own ❤ #romansteps #rhinogs #snowdonia #hiking #backpacking #wales

Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Roman Steps for its wild, untamed beauty and challenging, rewarding hike. The ancient steps and panoramic summit views are highlights, offering a true wilderness experience. However, some find the navigation difficult and the terrain tougher than expected for its height.

"Rhinog Fawr sits at the heart of the Rhinogydd range in North Wales, a wild and untamed landscape often dubbed "the last true wilderness of Wales." it offers a raw and solitary hiking experience. The ascent can be challenging in some parts, the paths are faint and navigation can be tough! but that’s exactly what makes it special."

Nomad Sam

"Heroic failure time. We trogged up the ‘Roman Steps’ and on to Llyn Du, but time wasn’t on our side, so we beat a leisurely retreat."

Simon Cooper

"Really good hike. Relatively easy. We did the hike via the Roman steps and so there were, as you can imagine, a lot of stepping up. Lots to see as you walk up the Roman steps through fields, woodlands and between valleys. There are a few tarns during the ascent too which was lovely. We took the small scramble route up on the last leg but there is an easier option if you don't fancy that. We also had a small french bulldog who thoroughly enjoyed himself with no bother. Boots would probably be the better option as the ground is very uneven and rocky, it can also get very boggy in places."
