What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
This historic wellhouse is praised for its quaint charm and well-kept gardens, offering a refreshing spring water experience. However, some visitors report issues with water quality and unwelcoming local interactions, alongside limited parking.
"Bitter water and poor flow at the present time, has been better in winter with a strong gushing outlet from the well. Heavy brown algal growths render the water unfit for drinking. Unpleasant locals and brat children play around the well on scooters encouraged by a local female gardener who attends to the flower beds near the well. Many senior locals are rude and aggressive, selfishly blocking access with cars parked for the nearby swing park and very intolerant of well visitors, this is an obnoxious village and has been since the influx of outsiders over the past thirty years. Many new houses have been built near the well and grandparents use the swing park, viewing other visitors with suspicion, lingering in the vicinity of the well to supervise with camera phones. Before the swing park was made, the stream used to zigzag off into the fields but has been piped underground and landscaped over. The private walled gardens are neatly kept but not open to the public. The place has a lot of rude, nosy senior women hanging around in groups, apparently looking for trouble, and anxious to have outsiders go away. These locals are unlikely to care for the heritage value of the site or have the well cleaned and it needs immediate attention for health and safety with many faux copper coins thrown in and chemically tarnishing. Very poor local council care in evidence."
