What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the beauty and charm of Somerleyton Hall and Gardens, highlighting the stunning gardens, the iconic yew maze, and the delicious homemade treats at the cafe. While the Hall's interior opening times can be limited, the expansive grounds offer a rich experience for all. Some note the gardens have a more 'lived-in' feel than highly manicured estates, which many find adds to its unique appeal.
"Somerleyton Hall is definitely worthy of making the extra effort to visit.
My friend and I had a relaxing, thoroughly enjoyable visit.
We were delighted to visit a formally designed garden in parts, with other parts of the garden being more informal, wild and natural with a consideration and sympathy for nature and wildlife.
Great to see an organic garden which must have a great diversity of insects.
Some interesting plants, flowers and trees to see.
We saw only a few other visitors, which made this a superb, tranquil visit as most other places are over busy and crowded. It gave us the feeling that we were the only visitors walking around in our own private gardens.
It's a hidden gem and the low key, non touristic, low use of signage makes it far more charming and personal than other estates
The cafe, has freshly prepared, delicious food, we were very pleased and especially as my friend is a Cordon Bleu trained chef... She was impressed with the Parsnip soup with a touch of apple.
We loved the simplicity and light, it felt very uplifting to sit in the greenhouse/conservatory surrounded by the pelagoniums.
Very friendly staff who are pleased to serve and who go the extra mile in serving.
A very lovely lady served us, who was beautifully dressed, well mannered and who clearly loves her work in being very welcoming.
Beautiful walled gardens with some good fruit collections, a peachery, pears, apples grapes, pumkins, gourds, tomatoes, chards and asparagus all growing in abundance.
Some impressive trees.
Thank you for a fabulous day.
We will be back."

"A wonderful trip. I went with the Brownies when I was young and 20 years later wanted to visit on my birthday this year. Plenty of parking on arrival. Tickets booked in advance. Walked around the gardens. Dry day but if wet take appropriate clothing and umbrella. Wheelchair friendly. Lots to see for your ticket. Staff were friendly and really care about the grounds. Delicious carrot cake in the cafe afterwards ."

"We chose to look round the gardens only, partly as the house is only open on select days in the summer, few or none of them in the school holidays. There are many differing parts to the gardens, from formal to more relaxed. This is not a National Trust property, so don't expect a garden that is pristine. This is obviously a garden in private ownership, managed by three valiant gardeners. It is used by the family for most of the year, hence we got glimpses of goal posts, pony jumps and inflatables for the swimming pool. The cafe was lovely. Possibly the best cup of tea (proper cup and saucer, teapot, loose leaf tea) and the best brownie I have ever had."
