What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise St. John the Baptist Church for its welcoming community and the kindness of its members, particularly Reverend Mark. The church itself is admired for its traditional rural charm and peaceful atmosphere, making it a lovely spot for reflection and family events. Some find the surrounding area of Clacton itself to be less appealing, but the church experience is overwhelmingly positive.
"This church is beautiful, and the staff and especially the reverend, Mark are amazing, lovely people. I also recently had my son and daughters christening here in May 2024. Mark was amazing and kind to my children and made all my family and friends feel welcome. Everyone appeared to enjoy the christening as Mark adapted it to make it more fun and child friendly. It was a very special day. The church kindly allowed me to use the hall across from the church, which was clean and very tidy with tables and chairs set up, ready for me to use. A big thank you to Mark and the people of the church."

"St. John's is a traditional rural Essex church with some interesting characteristic features. It's a beautiful church with an ornate mixture of stone & red-brickwork walls with a wooden spire addition to the tower. There are numerous interesting architectural details to be found around the building, most curious being the arches & columns surrounding the main doors. There's also a tiny wooden hatchway door at ground level, presumably leading into the crypt. The interior of St. John's is bright & airy because of the big windows & white walls. The building is surrounded by a mixture of Conifers & mature deciduous trees providing shade to the grassy churchyard. There are many old gravestones, some so overgrown by Ivy or Holly they're scarcely visible. Squirrels are regularly to be seen running through the grounds & overhanging branches."
