St Oswalds church Askrigg, a previously rendered church with a historic damp problem. The solution? To re-instate the original lime render. Here are some before, during and after pics. An amazing job in an amazing village. I grew up in Askrigg (well, a mile away in Worton) and it was such a pleasure to go back and work on the church I did my school nativity plays in! It was a little controversia...

Reviews Summary

St. Oswald's Church is lauded for its serene atmosphere, beautiful medieval architecture, and welcoming community. Visitors appreciate the peaceful ambiance for reflection and the scenic churchyard. Some note limited parking, but overall, it's considered a special place offering a glimpse into Durham's spiritual heritage.

"During my recent visit to Durham, I had the pleasure of spending time at the Parish Church of St Oswald’s—a truly serene and welcoming place nestled just beyond the city centre. From the moment I stepped through the old stone archway, I felt a quiet sense of history and calm that lingered throughout my time there.

The church itself is a beautiful example of medieval architecture, with a modest yet dignified presence. Inside, the peaceful atmosphere is enhanced by the soft light filtering through the stained-glass windows, each telling a story that adds to the church's rich spiritual and historical tapestry. The wooden beams, ancient stonework, and reverent silence create a contemplative space ideal for reflection.

I was particularly struck by the warmth of the community. Whether you're a local parishioner or a curious visitor, you're welcomed without hesitation. The churchyard is also worth exploring—it's a well-tended, tranquil space, ideal for a quiet stroll or moment of stillness amid nature.

If you're in Durham and looking for a quiet retreat from the busier tourist spots, St Oswald’s offers a glimpse into the soul of the city’s spiritual heritage. It’s a place where history, faith, and community come together in a very special way."

"This church was open to the public, but there was nobody in the area when we visited. Even though this is a smaller local church, the interior decoration and exterior grounds were beautiful. The church is surrounded by groves of trees with loads of old memorial plots, some of which are already faded away completely."

"Last time I was here was for Lumiere a few years ago but on Friday we were here for nephew's wedding. Beautiful old church set over the bridge from the cathedral. Long path from church door to gate so ideal place to line up and shower bride and groom with (paper please) confetti Limited parking but has a toilet !"
