"Walking down to the end of the busy High Street and the old parish church, I turned left and immediately found myself on this picturesque stone-built road bridge spanning the River Tweed. Medieval in origin, it was renovated and widened at the end of the 19th century, and the ornamental cast-iron lamps with their entwined dolphins and seashells were added at the same time. There are footpaths on both sides, with stunning views of both the town and the river with its leafy banks and islands. You get a good view of the bridge's five arches from the river bank. This is a good starting point for some lovely scenic riverside walks."
