🌊 Cool off with FREE nightly swims at Barton Springs Pool from 9–9:50PM. No ticket or reservation needed — just walk in and enjoy the water under the stars. Once a month during the full moon 🌕, swimmers gather for a community howl — one of my favorite Austin traditions. 🎟️ Free admission (night swims) ⏰ Nightly 9–9:50PM 📍 Barton Springs Pool

Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Barton Swing Aqueduct as a remarkable feat of Victorian engineering and a significant piece of industrial heritage. The ability to see the aqueduct swing for passing boats is a highlight. Some note that the site's upkeep could be improved with less overgrown planting and clearer access to all areas.

"Easy access for all from Barton Lane alongside the remains of the original aqueduct to the side of the MSC. Great views of the swing aqueduct, control tower and swing road bridge. Some informative notice boards there too.
Great industrial heritage.
Planting overgrown though."

David Finch

"The Barton Aqueduct was a world first and a remarkable feat of engineering in its time. It was once considered one of the seven wonders of the canal age, paving the way for future aqueducts and viaducts. Unfortunately, there isn’t much left to see today, as the original aqueduct was demolished in 1893 to make way for the Barton Swing Aqueduct. The site is surrounded by fences, making it difficult to explore, but it’s still an interesting part of our industrial history. Worth a visit if you’re into canal engineering and historical landmarks."

Andrew Seaford

"What a great piece of engineering. Stopped by on out cycle ride from Liverpool to Grimsby. The History here is amasung. We even had a wide beam pass over the aquaduct while we were there."
