What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the West Somerset Railway for its authentic heritage experience and the charm of steam travel. The restored Minehead station is a highlight, offering convenient access to the town. However, some reviews mention issues with planning, punctuality, and the availability of essential facilities like cafes and toilets during peak times.
"Minehead railway station is terminus of the West Somerset Railway - one of the longest heritage railways in the UK. The station itself has been restored to look much as it would have done in the heyday of the line but with the addition of a gift shop a modern café and a rare turntable. Enthusiasts of vintage railways can take advantage of the regular timetable of trains to see old diesels bu particularly steam engines. The sheds and siding also provide the opportunity to see engines being maintained or stored.
The station gives directly on the main street of Minehead as well as on to the esplanade and thus enjoys a particularly key position in the middle of the towm"

"Was a nice train ride but we left 30mins late, only have 20mins in Minehead so could not leave the station, and got back 30mins later than expected as well. Enjoyable ride but poor planning and communication. We went on the flying Scotsman and it was not worth the extra money in my opinion as you don’t get to see it sat on the train 😂"
Katherine Field
"One of the country's longest heritage lines so allow lots of time to explore the stations along the route.
Take time to explore your ticket options either online or by asking a volunteer .. not everyone has all day to ride the railway.
Plan your day and enjoy😀"
