Carlisle, Cumbria, North West England: A border-city in England’s once ‘wild west’, Carlisle has the most sieged castle in England - looked after by @English Heritage and featuring ghostly orbs - a cathedral with a resplendent royal blue ceiling, and two neighbouring Wetherspoons.

WETHERAL CAVES 💀 What can I say about this walk? Let’s just say that my mind went into slight overdrive and I ended up chickening out right when we reached the caves! Because they aren’t actually caves, they are actually old cells, which makes it ever so slightly, well actually ALOT creepier! 😱 Of course, the kids were slightly upset with me when I ordered them out of the caves and told them t...

Reviews Summary

Visitors find Wetheral Caves to be an interesting historical site with a lovely riverside walk, though some note it's not as 'magical' as anticipated. The free access and convenient parking are appreciated, but the steep and potentially muddy paths require caution, making it less suitable for those with mobility issues or young children without close supervision. InstagramReddit

"Steep slopes next to the water, you can take a top path so you miss a lot of it. Then walk down so your not to close to the side. There's two footpaths to it, so it's easy to find. Not as magical as I wanted it to be, but still worth a visit if nothing to do. There 3 rooms that are just square, and some windows. Wear walking boots, not muddy. Stop off at the gate house as that was on the way. Loads of free parking in the village."
