What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Avenue Washlands is appreciated for its potential as a peaceful walking and birdwatching spot, with the added bonus of train spotting. However, some visitors feel it lacks consistent management and could benefit from more attention to path maintenance and habitat upkeep. Midges can also be a concern during warmer periods.
"Always a bit disappointing as it feels unmanaged. Couple of trees down blocking paths at the moment following Storm Amy. And whoever Network Rail used to cut back the trees along the railway line have done a terrible job, ruining trees and dumping some of them in the river where they are now blocking the flow. Somebody needs to get a grip of what could be a lovely area."

"The place could do with some loving care and attention. Didn’t see any wildlife apart from lots of midges. Great if you like to train spot!
Shame really as this could be a great nature walk. One the plus side, their is plenty of seating dotted around."

"Stayed near by at friends and walked our dogs down here, lovely spot for bird watching and if like me you like trains, the Derby to Sheffield line runs by so bonus. Lovely and quiet place"
