Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Wisbech and Fenland Museum for its unique collection, including the Dickens manuscript and vintage displays, and its friendly volunteers. It's considered a valuable local history resource, though some note accessibility challenges and that it's best suited for shorter visits.

"A lovely little museum. I particularly liked the ‘grocery shop’ with food packets dating back many decades. I was disappointed not to be able to see the original manuscript of Great Expectations as it is not on permanent display - perhaps it should be housed somewhere that it can be seen by the public?"

Gill Lovick

"This museum is one of the oldest purpose-built museums in the country. It's hidden deep in the heart of Wisbech and is certainly worthy of more footfall.

Tickets are free for certain groups but for an adult it's £5 for an annual pass (great if you're local).

It houses the original draft manuscript of Great Expectations by Charles Dickens and a killer whale that died in the river during the 1800s just to name a couple of things.

Anyone visiting should also visit Elgoods Brewery and Peckover House. All within a 10 minute walk of one another.

It's only open on certain days so check the website for more information before visiting."

Connor Butler

"According to one of the volunteers this museum is the second oldest museum in England. The volunteers were very friendly and well informed. This is a nice, small museum with free entry. It had a dinosaur exhibition when we went. I would recommend visiting for a quick 30 minute visit"
