Visitors praise Wiston Castle as a remarkably well-preserved and peaceful example of a motte and bailey castle, offering a free and engaging historical experience. While some note the potential for muddy paths and the lack of facilities, the overall sentiment is one of discovery and appreciation for this hidden gem.
"Free parking is available not too far from the castle itself, there's a metal swing gate to the entrance of the field and a board which explains the history of the castle. It's a beautiful quiet place, there were only two other people visiting when I was there. Steps lead up to the castle mound and once on top you can enter the ruins. It's a really nice example of a motte and Bailey castle as you don't see many of these. The grounds are nice to walk in and are surrounded by lush greenery and big trees to offer shade in the hotter months. Unfortunately this place is not wheelchair friendly due to the narrow gated entrance."

"Very fine example of a Motte and Bailey castle, a little hidden away from the road. Parking straightforward close to the nearby church, but then it was a muddy field to cross to get to the steps up to the castle. No cattle on the day we visited. Charming ruin, very pleased we visited."

"A pretty view from the top of the castle area. A lovely moat area with some of the most gorgeous old trees. I think there is a walking path from the castle but we didn't have time.
Driving directions seem to want to take you down a private road. Park at the church, which is worth a visit, and walk through the small gate to the left of the driveway."
