"Walked and cycled this trail many times. From Colchester to Wivenhoe it is cycle friendly. Wivenhoe onwards says no cycling but you will find people still doing it, and is a nicer stretch to walk. Back towards Colchester you can cross the railway (if walking) and over to the woods and parkland.
Lots of wading and estuary birds, benches to stop at and views to take in. No busy roads nearby so can be nice and quiet when people are not around."
Tommi Rusted
