"Big Dune Recreation Area features impressive sand dunes that are great to explore on foot. The landscape is striking and offers plenty of photo opportunities. Be cautious not to get too close to unstable edges, as it’s easy to get stuck in the sand. A must-visit for outdoor lovers."

"WARNING! The review should get 5 stars in my opinion, but I'm being very generous. Me and my family were stuck in the sand for 3 hours in 105° and needed help from a tow truck that cost me $300. We took Google directions to the other side of the dunes where it's visited less. Take the .gov directions and turn left 2 miles down after taking Valley View Road.
The dirt road can turn sandy very quickly and I should have been paying attention. My cockiness though because I have a 4x4 Ford I'd be ok. I was wrong and want to warn others to come prepared!
Always travel with high quality tow ropes and traction boards. These could save your life or better yet ,save you a fortune in towing and rescue.
I did bring plenty of water but didn't have any rescue tools. That will change from this experience.
The Dunes are epic, beautiful, scenic and will visit again. Just don't make my mistake and visit unprepared.
Shout out to the ATV guy who saw us stranded and droveback to his camp to bring us water to my wife and daughter . You sir were a saint. Thank you.🙏❤️🙏"

"I drove past the southern entrance and thought about going back but didn't. Than I came across the one further north. There was no one. It was just my truck and me. I didn't drive it up the dunes but got close enough to walk to the top. Seeing this is surreal and doesn't make since. It was an amazing experience, the way the light reflected and the way the wind blew the sand was memorizing."
